AnVil Wins "Best of Show" Award at Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo
Life sciences discovery pioneer honored for innovative technology in Supporting Applications category.
Boston, Mass. - Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo - March 28, 2003 - AnVil, Inc., a pioneer in life sciences discovery, was honored with a "Best in Show" Award for its innovative AnVil Data Analysis Platform Technology (ADAPT) at this year's Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo in Boston. The award was given to AnVil at a ceremony at the Hynes Convention Center.
AnVil's extensible analytic software application, ADAPT, was selected as the winner of the Supporting Applications category, for its contributions to help streamline and accelerate the drug discovery and development process. ADAPT facilitates efficient analysis of clinical, genomic, proteomic, cheminformatic and other life sciences data. ADAPT also provides access to data analysis primitives (statistics, machine learning, data filtering, visualizations, etc.) while allowing users to develop higher level functionality on top of those primitives.
ADAPT was developed to support AnVil's analytic team in servicing AnVil's healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and genomics clients. The software platform is one component of AnVil's unique offering which includes access to a wide range of genomics and healthcare data (including hospital, pharmacy, transplant and insurance data), a strong, science-based analytic team (including medical doctors, biologists and chemists in addition to data miners and informaticists), and supporting technology.
By using ADAPT, research scientists are freed from dealing with the details of implementing the individual analytic process steps and can instead focus on the bigger picture. ADAPT provides mechanisms for the user to extend the set of available primitives to support new analyses that require processing steps not already available. In addition, ADAPT integrates the various life sciences, statistical, and database software packages required for modeling and searching molecular, genomics or other structures. As a result, ADAPT enables scientists and researchers to perform data analysis more efficiently and effectively than previously possible.
Dr. Richard D. Gill, President and CEO of AnVil, said, "We're immensely honored by our selection as Best in Show, particularly given the distinguished company of nominees in our category. We're proud that our work has been recognized at a prestigious venue such as Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo. All of the companies here are striving for leadership in life sciences IT, and we're pleased that our team earned this highly sought-after award."
IDG World Expo's Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo is the premier event focused exclusively on the integration and utilization of information technologies in the life sciences. The "Best of Show" Awards program was launched by Bio-IT World magazine, the premier publication covering technology for the life sciences, and IDG World Expo to recognize breakthrough technology products that best support the drug discovery and development process. The panel of judges at the Spring event was led by Bio-IT World magazine editors, and included technology end-users in life sciences research organizations. "Best of Show" Award winners were chosen based on technical merit, functionality and innovation, and in-person presentations to the judges at the show.
According to John Russell, executive editor, Bio-IT World, and project manager for the "Best of Show" Awards, "We have been extremely impressed with the caliber of products that have been reviewed for this award program. We congratulate our winners, and expect to see continued technology leadership from these companies based on their product vision, and commitment to supporting important advances in biomedical research and drug discovery."
