AnVil and Genomics Collaborative Form Strategic Alliance to Market Clinical Information and Analysis

Industry leaders to advance new predictive and therapeutic models for cardiovascular diseases

Burlington, MA - November 5, 2002 - AnVil, Inc. and Genomics Collaborative, Inc. (GCI) today unveiled the details of a new strategic alliance that will enable AnVil and GCI to pursue opportunities in marketing clinical data analyses to improve treatment of serious diseases.

The agreement calls for AnVil to work with GCI in analyzing cardiovascular clinical data from GCI's Global Repository™, a proprietary database of properly consented, well annotated DNA, Tissue, and serum samples collected from more than 115,000 individuals, to better drive ongoing molecular and clinical research efforts. Both companies will leverage the knowledge gained from these analyses through marketing the results to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and clinical research organizations (CROs) with the objective of facilitating new technological advances for treating patients with cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Richard Gill, President and CEO of AnVil, said "This is a fantastic opportunity for AnVil and GCI to improve the discovery and delivery of more effective cardiovascular drugs and therapies to the patient populations we will be exploring together. GCI's comprehensive databases are a fertile hunting ground for new predictive and treatment models, and we're confident our work will result in high-quality and high-value R&D resources for pharmas, biotechs and CROs."

"We expect exciting outcomes from this partnership," said Michael Pellini, M.D., Chief Executive Officer at GCI. "The work we're undertaking meets a tremendous and underserved need in our mutual client base, and this will be a strong collaboration. AnVil offers an outstanding complement to Genomics Collaboratives' mission and capabilities, and we're very confident in our model going forward."

AnVil will use its domain expertise in life sciences and medicine, along with its analytical and visualization technologies and services, to survey and evaluate GCI's databases related to the initial stages of Coronary Artery Disease, Myocardial Infarction, Hyperlipidemia and Hypertension. The analysis and hypotheses developed in this phase will be used to build predictive and analytical models of specified patient populations and treatment characteristics.

The companies will develop a joint marketing and business plan for the partnership. This agreement marks an expansion of existing links between AnVil and Genomics Collaborative, dating back to April 2002 when they launched a pilot project to accelerate the development of new rheumatoid arthritis drugs.
