AnVil Announces Collaboration with HealthSouth for Clinical Information and Knowledge Marketing

Life sciences discovery pioneer to analyze healthcare data for improved predictive and treatment models

Burlington, MA - Underscoring the potential that exists in healthcare information that is often buried in treatment records, life sciences pioneer AnVil today announced a collaboration with HealthSouth (NYSE:HRC), the nation's largest provider of outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging and rehabilitative healthcare services, with approximately 1,900 locations in all 50 states, the United Kingdom, Australia, Puerto Rico and Canada. Under this agreement, AnVil will apply its analytical and visualization technologies, as well as pharmaceutical and clinical domain expertise to the innovative use of information and knowledge to be realized from HealthSouth's information systems.

In the first phase of the project, AnVil will use its analytical methodology to explore the effectiveness and efficacy of various cardiac medications on stroke populations by examining aggregated data collected by HealthSouth. In addition, data from orthopedic treatments will be analyzed to assess the effectiveness of prescribed analgesics and anti-infectives.

According to Richard M. Scrushy, HealthSouth Chairman of the Board and CEO, "The goal is to identify treatment information that helps drive better understanding of the use of pharmaceuticals and increased quality of care."

AnVil will work closely with HealthSouth to leverage its data by actively marketing the knowledge that results from the analysis of that data to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and clinical research organizations. The goal of this process is to facilitate technological advances for patients being cared for in HealthSouth's network.
