May 1, 2002 AnVil Announces Key Technical Hires Pioneer in life sciences informatics signs on new Director of Engineering and Informatics Scientist Burlington, MA - May 1, 2002 - As part of its continuing expansion, life sciences discovery pioneer AnVil, Inc. today announced the hiring of two key experts to help guide its technical capabilities. Dr. Kurt Thearling has been named AnVil's Director, Engineering, and Dr. Natasha Markuzon has joined as Informatics Scientist. Dr. Thearling brings to AnVil over fifteen years of experience and leadership in software technology and management, along with a well-established industry reputation as an expert in data mining, decision support, and analytics technologies. He was most recently Senior Director of Development and Chief Scientist at Wheelhouse, in Burlington, MA, where he managed software development efforts, designed new product architectures, and set technology strategy. Prior to Wheelhouse, Dr. Thearling also served as Director of Analytics at CRM software maker Xchange, of Boston. He has also consulted extensively in the biotechnology and pharmaceuticals sector. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois in 1990. Dr. Markuzon comes to AnVil after many years of extensive experience in data mining, predictive modeling, and neural networks, with applications to finance and biotechnology. She recently served as Senior Data Analyst at Xchange, and prior to that was Senior Scientist at Knowledge Stream Partners (acquired by Xchange in April, 2000). Dr. Markuzon has also held several research posts at major universities, including Boston University, Princeton and at the Research Institute "SouzGazAutomatica" in Moscow.
