AnVil Announces Two Key Hires

Pioneer in life sciences informatics signs on new CFO and Director of Discovery Informatics

Burlington, MA - March 25, 2002 - As part of its recent expansion moves, life sciences informatics pioneer AnVil today announced two senior hires to help direct its business and scientific operations. John J. Hallinan was named Chief Financial Officer of AnVil, and Dr. John F. McCarthy was named Director, Discovery Informatics.

John J. Hallinan is an experienced senior manager, and was previously CFO at Animation Technologies of Boston, the premier provider of interactive 3D applications and services to the legal and corporate community. Prior to that, he was the CFO of CambridgeSoft Corporation, the leading supplier of desktop software to the life science and chemical industries. John also held financial and business development management positions at Prime Computer and Computervision. He earned his B.B.A. from St. Bonaventure University and is a licensed C.P.A.

Dr. John F. McCarthy, M.D., Ph.D., was recently Director of Bioinformatics at Cellomics, Inc., where he led the development of bioinformatics tools for the field of cell biology. He was also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, researching the application of artificial intelligence and biostatistical methods to data mining in both clinical and molecular databases. Dr. McCarthy has distinguished experience in bioinformatics, molecular medicine, genomics research, computational biology bioengineering, outcomes research, and health services research.

Dr. McCarthy received his M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, his Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of Illinois, his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut, and his B.A. in Chemistry and Physics from Boston University. He completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and is licensed as a registered physician in the state of Massachusetts. He is presently Chair of the Genomics Working Group of the American Medical Informatics Association and is a candidate for an M.P.H. degree, with a focus on statistical genetics and epidemiology, at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.
