Kenneth A. Marx is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of
Massachusetts Lowell. He also created the Center for Intelligent Biomaterials (CIB) at
University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he currently serves as director. The Center is
involved in both biomaterials and bioinformatics research. He received his B.S. in
Chemistry at San Diego State University and his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at U.C.
Berkeley in 1973. After that, Dr. Marx completed his postdoctoral work at the University
of Edinburgh, Scotland as a Muscular Dystrophy Society of America Fellow and at the
Worcester Foundation as a NIH Fellow.
Dr. Marx served as faculty member at Dartmouth College during 1977-1985 in the Department
of Chemistry and as an Adjunct Faculty in the Dartmouth Medical School and Norris Cotton
Cancer Center. In 1985 he joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of
Massachusetts Lowell. He has received over 50 academic grants and contracts and is
currently funded by the Army Research Office, NIH and numerous companies. He has
published nearly 150 scientific papers, numerous review articles and book chapters. He
reviews for a number of scientific journals and provides consulting services to a number
of companies. Dr. Marx has participated in organizing a number of ARO workshops and has
chaired sessions at NATO ASI Summer School.
