Gregory Piatetsky-Shapiro, Ph. D.

Dr. Piatetsky-Shapiro is often referred to as "the father of data mining." He is the Editor of KDnuggetsTM News, the leading online newsletter for the data mining and knowledge discovery community. He was a founding co-editor in chief of the Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery journal, and is currently on the editorial board of the journal.

Dr. Piatetsky-Shapiro was Vice-President and Chief Scientist at Xchange, a leading analytical CRM and campaign management company, as well as Vice-President and Chief Scientist at Knowledge Stream Partners (KSP), a consulting and software development company that specialized in advanced data mining and customer analytics. Prior to that, he served for 12 years as Senior and later Principal Member of Technical Staff at GTE Laboratories.

He has edited or co-edited eight collections on data mining and knowledge discovery, including two best-selling books: Knowledge Discovery in Databases and Advances in Knowledge Discovery in Databases, and has over 50 publications in the areas of data mining, artificial intelligence and database research.

Dr. Piatetsky-Shapiro earned his M.S. and Ph.D. from New York University Department of Computer Science.
